This Week: Celebrating Women in Construction

Brothers and Sisters,

This week, we celebrate Women in Construction Week. Local 7’s commitment to securing equal opportunities for all is carried out by our hardworking, highly-skilled Sisters every day. It isn’t always easy to pursue a career in the trades as a woman, but our Sisters are leading the way. They’re true role models for their communities.

The future for women in the union building trades is bright. Each year, Local 7 welcomes more and more great, qualified female apprentices and journeywomen into our ranks. In fact, in 2020, 12% of our apprenticeship class was female – that’s more than triple the national average. Most importantly, we’re committed to equal pay for equal work. Under our Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), we proudly ensure that all workers, regardless of their gender, are paid at the same rates.

Diversity strengthens our communities, our trade, and our union. There’s still work to do, but we’ll continue to fight so all workers have a chance to build our region.

Thank you to our Sisters for your hard work and dedication.

In Solidarity,
