Suffolk Downs Groundbreaking

Brothers and Sisters,

Local 7 is thrilled to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the Suffolk Downs development! This project is the largest private-sector Project Labor Agreement (PLA) ever signed in our region and will create good, family-sustaining jobs for union members for years to come.

Suffolk Downs will revitalize and connect the East Boston and Revere neighborhoods by transforming an underutilized parcel. It will create thousands of units of housing, including more than 900 much-needed affordable units, and six million square feet of retail, office, lab, hotel, and hospitality spaces. With a focus on connectivity and accessibility, this project will promote new economic development in our communities.

Thanks to this historic PLA, the Suffolk Downs project will be completely union-built and create 14,000 jobs across every sector of the building trades. In addition, this agreement sets strong standards for workers’ rights, training, safety, and wages and benefits and includes $1 million in new funding to support the Building Pathways pre-apprenticeship program, which Local 7 is proud to partner with.

Local 7 looks forward to starting work on this exciting new project as we continue to advocate for responsible development throughout our jurisdiction.
