Structural iron workers unload, erect, and connect fabricated iron to form the skeleton of a structure, in addition to erecting and installing pre-cast beams, columns, and panels. At Local 7, our structural team works on a variety of industrial, commercial, and large residential buildings, as well as on towers, bridges, stadiums, and pre-fabricated metal buildings.
Local 7’s reinforcing iron workers fabricate and install steel bars, also known as rebar, in concrete forms to reinforce structures. This process involves placing rebar on appropriate supports and tying them together with tie wire or, in other cases, installing post-tensioning tendons or cables and stressing concrete using hydraulic jacks and pumps to ensure structural stability.
Our team of skilled ornamental or architectural iron workers fabricate and install curtain wall and window wall systems that cover the steel or reinforced concrete structure of a building. Inside a building, they construct metal stairways, catwalks, doors, railings, elevator fronts, platforms, and other structural components with a variety of metals.
Often performed by ornamental and reinforcing specialists, our workforce is well-equipped to load, unload, and set up machinery, structural steel, and curtain walls. With skills training, they also operate heavy machinery like power hoists, cranes, derricks, forklifts, and aerial lifts.
Welding and burning equipment are considered tools of the trade to secure any erected work to a structure. As such, regardless of trade specialization, most of our members are certified welders.
